The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a 34-year-old male worker was sent to hospital following the second construction site accident in Ottawa this week.

Officials say the accident happened when the worker fell backwards into a 3.5-metre pit at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

Fire inspectors say he was watching over his equipment without a proper spotter. He did not lose consciousness and was sent to hospital with minor injuries.

The accident comes three days after a worker was killed when he fell from a ladder and struck his head at a construction site at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
