Representatives of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada say someone may try to use the agency's name to gain access to your bank account.

Ursula Menke of FCAC told CTV Ottawa the caller is claiming to be from the federal agency and offering to consolidate credit card debt.

Another incident involves a suspicious website that offers credit card reports for free.

"We never initiate contact with consumers in any way and we don't offer services to consumers directly," said Menke.

Any suspicious phone calls, emails or websites should be reported to police and the Consumer Fraud Centre.
