A year ago this month, 17-year-old Ottawa high school student Rowan Stringer, died after a head injury during a rugby game.

Her death had a lasting affect on this community and has resulted in changes to concussion protocols.

Her parents, Kathleen and Gordon Stringer, are honouring Rowan’s memory by creating awareness about concussions and about organ donation.

Rowan believed in organ donation and eight people benefited from her gift of life.

The Stringers have also donated Rowan's brain tissue to a leading research centre at Boston University with the hope they can help prevent this kind of tragedy.

Tonight on CTV Ottawa at six, CTV’s Natalie Pierosara talks to the Stringer family about their daughter’s legacy.
