A roundabout will soon be constructed at one of the busiest intersections in Orleans, adding to an influx of roundabouts starting to sprout up across Ottawa's suburbs.

The two-lane roundabout will be installed at St. Joseph and Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard later this year.

While some residents say it will be good for traffic, others argue it will be a surprise to people visiting the neighbourhood.

"There's something that says, wow, something's different here. I'm slowing down, paying attention a bit more, it's not just a high speed thoroughfare anymore," said Peter Stewart of the Orleans BIA.

However, roundabouts aren't new to the city. They've existed for years near the Experimental Farm, and different versions have recently popped up in Barrhaven.

Construction on the Orleans roundabout will begin this summer.
