A new Ottawa facility was officially opened on Friday for children with disabilities to provide a chance for parents to recharge their physical and emotional batteries.

The Rotary Home will provide respite care lasting from a few hours to a few days, with 21 beds and a staff of nurses and support workers. Their young guests can do crafts and activities or go on outings.

The home was built with donations and $2 million in provincial infrastructure dollars. Premier Dalton McGuinty was among the dignitaries at Friday's grand opening.

Work is continuing to provide funding for a similar facility for young adults with disabilities.
