Rink of Dreams ramping up with summer activities
From skating to salsa dancing, Ottawa’s Rink of Dreams is widening its range of activities.
A packed summer schedule has been released for the public outdoor space. All of the events will be free and offered by local community groups.
“Their providing the training, dance lessons or anything else for free, and it's a great way for residents and tourists alike to celebrate summer but also celebrate this great open space at city hall,” says Ottawa mayor Jim Watson.
Azucar Latin Dance Company and Salsa-Force will be spicing up the summer with free salsa lessons – no experience required.
“We do want to bring the Latino community out of course and we also want to make salsa to the entire Ottawa community because it's such a wonderful dance,” says Ana Gherasim of Azucar.
Other activities include Tai Chi, circus school and showings of silent movies.
For those who would like to see bone-crushing hits outside city hall, the Rideau Valley Roller Girls are holding an event on July 19.
“To be able to expose those people to the sport is outstanding and more than we could ever do on our own,” says Nyree Costello, also known as “Kiki VonCarnage”.
