Residents who live near the site where OC Transpo plans to build a new articulated bus garage say the plan will bring problems to an already busy and congested area.

“We have a lot of concerns but the largest concern is going to be congestion," said one resident.

OC Transpo has put forward a plan to expand its bus garage on Industrial Avenue in Riverview Park. The cost of the expansion has ballooned from $60 million to $97 million. It would also bring 526 more buses down an already busy road.

The Riverview Park Community Association says they want the city to either choose another location, or mitigate the problems they're bringing to the table.

“There's going to be a lot of traffic leaving Industrial, car traffic leaving Industrial and they're going to be going down a lot of the side streets," said one resident.

“From our perspective, I don't think the road is suited to this. I don't know why they don't build a road out the back of this proposed garage over to Belfast," added another.

Coun. Peter Hume who represents the area has promised to meet with residents in the coming weeks.
