Orleans residents are speaking out over a proposed four per cent tax hike and cuts to OC Transpo bus routes.

Residents also questioned the green bin program and whether composting will actually ease the demand for landfill space.

They expressed their concerns Thursday night at the first in a series of public consultations on the city's 2010 budget.

The proposed property tax increase means the average urban homeowner will pay an additional $142 on their tax bill; a rural homeowner will pay about $132 more than last year.

In addition to higher taxes, user fees for OC Transpo and recreation facilities will also go up.

City council will make a final decision on the budget in January.
