Ottawa Police are investigating the sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman in Barrhaven.

The woman says she was walking alone in a green space area between Claridge Drive and Longfields Drive early Tuesday morning when she was approached by two men.

The victim says she was sexually assaulted before she was able to escape.

Residents in the area heard the commotion and called 9-1-1 but the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

19-year-old Serena Weatherhead says she often runs along the pathway leading to Longfields transit station.

"That's pretty terrifying. That's like my daily route. That's really scary actually," says Weatherhead.

Nearby residents say trees along the path have been cut back. While the path is well lit, they say some areas are still crowded by trees obstructing the view from residents.

"It was a matter of time. I can't tell you the number of times I've walked through there at 5:30 in the morning trying to get to work and my head is on a swivel," says Meredith Hall.

She says people can easily hide among the trees, catching someone off guard if they're not on full alert.

Ottawa police describe the two men as white, in their mid-20s, wearing baggy pants and possibly driving a small vehicle.
