The search continues for an Ottawa-based RCMP officer who remains missing in Haiti.

Supt. Doug Coates and fellow RCMP officer Sgt. Mark Gallagher, from Nova Scotia, remain unaccounted for in the disaster zone.

The RCMP commissioner released a statement Thursday stating the force is committed to locating the two officers.

"We are doing everything we can to find our missing members under these exceptional circumstances and are also waiting for additional resources to assist us in our work," said William Elliott.

"Our thoughts are with our police colleagues on the ground and we hope for the safe return of Doug and Mark."

Elliot said the RCMP is in touch with both the missing officers' families, as well as the families of other RCMP officers stationed in Haiti.

Both officers had been stationed in Port-au-Prince as part of a United Nations training mission.
