Ottawa police are appealing to the public after 25 homes were broken into near the Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus and the Glebe in the last week.

The homes are being targeted during the day while homeowners are away or at work.

Police say the suspects are often breaking in by forcing the home's rear door or window open. Suspects are stealing cash, small electronics and jewelry.

Police say the two neighbourhoods only experienced one break-in during the same period last year.

Investigators are now urging residents to immediately report any suspicious activity to police by calling 911.
