Trevor Rankin, the Ottawa man who disappeared in Charlottetown on Christmas Eve, died by accidental drowning, according to a post-mortem examination.

Charlottetown police are calling Rankin's death "a tragic accident." They said alcohol was a contributing factor.

His body was recovered by divers near the city's waterfront Wednesday afternoon.

Rankin disappeared on Christmas Eve after a night-out with his nephew. He was in Charlottetown visiting his family for the holidays.
