OTTAWA - Starting Saturday, Aug. 10 there will be additional off peak lane closures on Highway 417 in both directions between Nicholas Street and the 174 split.

  • Sunday, Aug. 11 - The right hand lane of Highway 417 westbound will be closed overnight between the Vanier Parkway and Hurdman Bridge.
  • Monday, Aug. 12 - The Vanier Parkway southbound on-ramp to westbound Highway 417 re-opens.
  • Monday, Aug. 12 - Two westbound lanes of Highway 417 will be closed overnight between the Vanier Parkway and Nicholas Street.
  • Monday, Aug. 12 to Wednesday, Aug. 14 - The right hand shoulder of the Nicholas Street off-ramp from Highway 417 eastbound will be closed nightly.
  • Monday, Aug. 12 to Saturday, Aug. 17 - The right hand shoulder of OR 174 will be closed nightly in the vicinity of Montreal Road to Blair Road.
  • Monday, Aug. 12 to Friday, Aug. 16 - The right hand lanes of Highway 417 will be closed nightly in both directions between St. Laurent Boulevard and Lees Avenue.
  • Monday, Aug.12 to Saturday, Aug. 17 - Both shoulders lanes of Highway 417 will be closed nightly in both directions in the vicinity of Walkley Road to Innes Road.
  • Monday, Aug. 12 to Saturday, Aug. 17 - One lane of the westbound Highway 417 will be closed overnight and daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., between Walkey Road and Innes Road.
  • Saturday Aug. 10 to Sunday, Aug. 11 - One lane of the westbound Highway 417 will be closed overnight from 1 km west of Walkey Road to Innes Road.
  • Tuesday, Aug.13 to Friday Aug. 16 - The 417 will be closed in both directions in the vicinity of the Vanier Parkway and Hurdman Bridge, for 15 minute intervals between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police will be on hand to direct traffic, however motorists are urged to consider alternate routes.
  • Wednesday, Aug.14 - The OR-174 off-ramp for the eastbound Highway 417 will be closed overnight.
  • In addition to the above new closures, the westbound Hwy 417 off-ramp to St. Laurent Boulevard will remain closed and the existing lane reductions on St. Laurent Boulevard between Lemieux Street and Tremblay Road will continue until the end of August.

Signage will be in place to advise commuters of traffic and road changes and motorists are reminded to respect the reduced speed limits and use caution when travelling through construction zones. Many of these construction elements are weather dependant and may be implemented later than the dates given.

This work is being done as part of the Highway 417 expansion project, which began in May, and will add an additional lane in each direction, between Nicholas Street and the Split for rapid transit during the 2015 to 2018 phase of Confederation Line construction.

With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use other alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
