The Quyon Ferry, which operates between west Quebec and Ottawa, is shutting down for the season, forcing many residents to take a longer route to work.

"It's going to really suck. I usually take it every day of the week coming to and from work," said Corey Albert.

He says he can't wait for year-round service between Quyon, Que. and Ottawa's Fitzroy Harbour.

However, those close to the project say even though plans are underway; it could be a few years before year-round service is made available.

"Eventually, that's our plan. We're hoping to start construction this spring and it takes nine months to a year to build it, but it's still not a definite yet," said ferry owner Don McColgan.

The ferry has been in operation for more than 100 years. It will resume service in April.
