An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday as residents of a Vanier neighbourhood, just east of Ottawa's downtown, expressed shock at a woman found dead in a parking lot early Friday morning.

By early afternoon Friday, investigators had finished their work and the body of the woman was carried from the parking lot where it was found just before 7:30 a.m.

"The police knocked on the door at 7:30 this morning and just asked me a few questions. No idea what was going on," said resident Andre Clermont.

Fireworks were biggest problem before

Until Friday morning, the biggest disturbance in this Vanier neighbourhood was young people occasionally setting off fireworks.

No one CTV Ottawa spoke with heard anything unusual last night.

"My mother in law has a full-time caregiver," said Guy Theriault.

"She arrived at 20 after seven. There was no security perimeter. My wife and I left at a quarter to eight and everything was taped off."

Discovered close to elementary school

The victim was found opposite 120 Alice Street, near the intersection with St. Charles and close to Le Trillium elementary school.

The major crime unit of the Ottawa Police was soon on the scene looking at what's still considered a "suspicious death."

Few details are being revealed pending further investigation.
