A mother from western Quebec was found unconscious in the shower at the Hull jail Wednesday morning after an attempt to take her own life.

Kathrine Dufresne, 53, faces first-degree murder charges in the death of her seven-year-old adopted daughter Sophie.

Sophie was found unconscious at the family home in Chelsea, Que. on Oct. 22 and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Dufresne had been found fit to stand trial earlier this week. She was scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 28.

There are reports Dufresne is in critical condition.
