A young toddler has died after drowning in her backyard swimming pool in Quebec Sunday.

The parents of the one-and-a-half year old girl found her body in the family’s pool in Laval’s Saint Rose District just before 3p.m.

Officers tied to revive her. She was pronounced dead in hospital.

There have been 41 drowning deaths in Quebec this year. This has prompted the province’s education minister to implement swimming lessons in elementary schools across the province starting in September.
