GATINEAU, Que. -- Police say they found a small zoo of exotic animals inside a home in the western Quebec community of Gatineau.

Among the animals they seized were a spectacled caiman crocodile, a green iguana, a bearded dragon, a snapping turtle, two pythons and three boa constrictors.

Police say some of the animals were loose inside the basement apartment of the home.

An unlicensed pitbull was also found in the apartment and has been turned over to the SPCA, while the remainder of the animals were taken to Little Ray's Reptile Zoo in Ottawa.

Animal control officers with the city of Gatineau were first to arrive at the apartment and called police for their own safety.

The owner is believed to be a man who lives in the apartment, and neighbours say they'd seen him walking around outside with one of the snakes.
