It was a slippery and dangerous commute in Ottawa Monday morning as freezing rain turned roads and sidewalks into skating rinks.

By mid morning, main roads were bare and wet.  Residential streets were slippery, many roads had huge puddles, and sidewalks were layered with ice.

School buses were cancelled.

There were more two dozen cancellations and numerous delays at the Ottawa International Airport.

Environment Canada has issued a Flash Freeze warning for Ottawa and eastern Ontario.

The temperature is expected to be -8 degrees this afternoon.

Ottawa will be back in the deep freeze tonight with a low temperature of -23 degrees.
