Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty was among those wishing a 14-year-old Ottawa student good luck as she prepares to battle the top young spellers in the world.

Emma Brownlie, a Grade 8 student from D. Roy Kennedy School, is heading to Washington for the Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 29.

The spelling bee will host 288 young spellers from around the world who will face-off for top honours in the two-day competition.
