It’s a great weekend for those with an adventurous palate.

Two events are taking place in Ottawa that put the spotlight on food and drink.

First the food. Poutine Fest is back at Sparks Street Mall.

It features 19 street vendors and 10 restaurants offering everything from the traditional fries, cheese curds and gravy to exotic takes like Thai poutine and even haggis poutine.  “It sounds awful, but it’s fantastic,” enthuses Fadi Baroud of Fadi’s Fabulous Foods.

There are also other foods on offer as well as plenty of free entertainment. Poutine Fest runs to 5pm Sunday.

If the poutine makes you a little thirsty, you can head over to Lansdowne Park for The Beverage Show.

It is made up of several vendors offering samples of local, Ontario and imported craft beers, wines, spirits and other beverages. Many of the selections aren’t available in Beer Stores or the LCBO. “Over 400 different samples that you can try,” says Marketing Director Paul Gibb. “So it’s a great time to come down.”

The Beverage Show continues to 10pm Saturday in the Aberdeen Pavilion.
