Ottawa police will not lay charges in the drowning death of a two-year-old boy who drowned while visiting a daycare in Orleans last month.

Police say they've reviewed the circumstances of Jérémie Audette's death and have determined there are no grounds to lay criminal charges.

Although no charges will be laid, investigators say they will continue to play an active role in the coroner's review of the case, as well as the Ministry of Child and Youth Services.

Audette was pulled without vital signs from a backyard swimming pool at a daycare on Rougemount Crescent on July 28. He was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Audette was visiting the home to attend a regular play date with kids and daycare providers in the neighbourhood. At least 22 children were present at the time of the incident, as well as several daycare providers.
