OTTAWA -- A 23-year-old man is dead after Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says he fell from an Ottawa apartment window as Ottawa Police officers were executing a search warrant.

Ontario's police watchdog says Ottawa Police officers attended an apartment building at 2020 Jasmine Crescent at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday.

"Soon after the officers breached the door of an apartment unit on the 12 floor, a man fell from the window to the ground below," the SIU said in a statement.

The SIU says medical aid was provided to the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ottawa Police Service said in a message on Twitter that the "SIU has invoked its mandate in relation to a police investigation in the 2000 block of Jasmine Cr."  Ottawa Police provided no other information about the case.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is called in to investigate reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
