Police are warning snowmobilers to be cautious after two men died in collisions last weekend in the Outaouais area.

A 29-year-old man died Saturday after hitting a tree in Gracefield. Hours later, Joseph Leafloor, 31, drove his snowmobile into a riverbank near the town of Quyon.

"He was very happy, just bubbly and happy and cute," said Leafloor's friend Maureen Cote. "You couldn't not love him."

"He had so many different groups of friends, just very well-loved."

Police believe speed and alcohol were a factor in Leafloor's crash.

"Drivers need to use common sense," said Const. Martin Fournel of the MRC des Collines. "No airbag on those, no protection. If you get ejected or hit a tree, there's no tomorrow."

So far this winter, 11 people have died in snowmobile crashes in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
