Ottawa Police are warning about a new scam targetting people for fake traffic fines.

The scam involves an email telling the recipient to pay a traffic violation. It urges the potential victim to click on a link to make the payment. Police say don't click on the link. It’s an attempt to get personal information from the user.

Police say they never issue traffic fines via email, nor do they collect email address information during traffic stops.
