Ottawa police are hoping to obtain a $340,000 American-made armoured rescue vehicle for everything from security breaches at embassies to transporting high-risk prisoners.

The LENCO G3 BearCat would be used by tactical officers responding to events on and around Parliament Hill, embassies, and consulates, according a memo by Chief Vern White.

Other uses for the ARV would include major search and arrest warrants, barricaded person calls, and violent situations at Ottawa International Airport.

The BearCat is used by hundreds of U.S. law enforcement agencies.

The Ottawa Police Services Board will consider the funding request at their next meeting on Monday night.
