Ottawa police have yet to speak with a 30-year-old Ottawa woman found beaten, nearly naked and semi-conscious in a park Saturday morning.

The woman remains heavily sedated in hospital in stable condition but has very serious injuries after she was found in a park off LePage Avenue near Merivale Road.

Police say they won't know if it was a random attack until they speak with her.

Steve Sauve and his grandson Cody were walking their dog when they came across her nearly naked body Saturday morning at around 8:30 a.m.

"I was just two minutes into the bush and I just said, 'Oh my God.' Cody was with me. We yelled for some vital signs and the woman moaned a bit, so we quickly ran to the neighbours and called 911. The police were there within minutes," Sauve told CTV Ottawa.

The attack has some residents concerned about safety in their community.

"A couple of weeks ago there were a couple of gunshots up the street on our corner. I find this pretty upsetting. It's pretty tragic," said Debbie Kelly, a resident in the area.

The Ottawa Police Sexual Assault Unit is investigating the case. They have identified the woman but will not release her name.
