Police are continuing their search of a wooded area in Brockville for any trace of a missing 80-year-old woman.

Valerie Xavier, originally from England, was reported missing on Monday. She was last known to be at her home on Laurier Boulevard in Brockville on Sunday evening.

"We know that my mother has been missing since sometime Sunday night, and we are looking for anybody who has seen her," said Xavier's son, Chris Corfe.

"We're looking for a sweet, 80-year-old, hundred pound, little woman who should not be out by herself right now."

Police have spent the last few days searching for clues in a wooded area off Highway 29 in Brockville, near the Buells Creek Resevoir. Underwater search and recovery teams, helicopters and canine units have all been called in to assist.

"This is an area we've determined is an area of interest and we're conducting our search in this area," said Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kristine Rae.

Woman took in boarders

A forensic team is also searching Xavier's apartment for evidence: "I can't make any comment at this point," one investigator said.

However, the building's supervisor told CTV Ottawa Xavier often took in boarders to share her two bedroom condo. He said the last boarder was a teenager who moved in about a month ago.

"That seemed very unusual that someone that young would be living with her," said Perry Greene.

Teen arrested

A 16-year-old Brockville male was arrested in Ottawa earlier this week after he was allegedly found in possession of Xavier's car. Police confirm the two know each other.

"That's all I can say at this time," said Rae.

The teen, whose name can't be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with possessing a stolen credit card, theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. He was released on bail on Wednesday.

Xavier is described as a petite woman with white hair and glasses.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Brockville police at 613-342-0127.
