Police release name of passenger killed in crash near Hawkesbury, charge driver with impaired
Provincial police say they began investigating last month after hearing from other law enforcement agencies that drugs were being imported in vehicles shipped to Canada by rail.
OPP have a 23-year old man in custody in connection with a fatal collision early Saturday morning. 24-year-old Renaud Savage of Casselman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Nation Township, near Hawkesbury.
OPP say they responded to the deadly crash just before 3:00 a.m. on Concession Road 9.
The 24-year-old victim died at the scene. He was one of five passengers in the vehicle.
A second male passenger was rushed to hospital in critical condition and police said Sunday night his injuries are considered life-threatening. A third male passenger is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the other two passengers were not injured.
Charged with impaired driving causing death, two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing death, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and theft of a motor vehicle is 23-year old Miguel Demers of Alexandria, North Glengarry Township.
