GRENVILLE-SUR-LA-ROUGE, Que. -- The body of a young man from Ontario has been recovered from a river in the Laurentians region northwest of Montreal.

The 19-year from Ontario was reported missing on Sunday evening after he had tried to swim across the riviere Rouge near the communities of Grenville, Que., and Hawkesbury, Ont.

After firefighters unsuccessfully used a boat to try to rescue the swimmer, provincial police divers arrived at the scene on Monday.

They found the body in the early evening close to where the young man had sunk to the river bottom.

An autopsy will be conducted.

The man's name has not been released.
