Police make arrest in connection to suspicious deaths

A man has been arrested in connection to the "suspicious" deaths of two women who were found in separate units in the same Gatineau apartment complex within a 24-hour period last week.

A Gatineau police SWAT team made the arrest Wednesday at 267 Rue de Malartic - the same building where the bodies of 53-year-old Johan Ayotte and 64-year-old Diane Johanette were found. Police are describing the man as a "person of interest."

Both women lived alone and residents of the building have identified the pair as best friends who were inseparable.

Investigators say the exact cause of death for both women is yet to be determined.

Police are continuing their investigation.
