Police in Durham have charged two more men in connection with the slaying of two Ontario men, including a 26-year-old man from Ottawa.
The charges come nearly one year after the bodies of Puneet Singh Chhina, 26, of Ottawa, and Harjinder Singh Sandhu, 28, of Brampton, were found shot and beaten in the trunk of a rental car that was abandoned on the side of the road in Pickering, Ont., on May 5, 2009.
Police have said the slayings had the markings of an organized crime hit.
Ganesh Singh, 56, of Markham, and Zaki Goffur, 34, of Richmond Hill, are both charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Singh, whose son is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case, was arrested on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Goffur who is believed to be out of the country.
Police have already charged Vijay Singh, 29, and John Le, 38, with two counts each of first-degree murder, kidnapping, forcible confinement and using a firearm.
Sandhu, a truck driver, was facing drug charges at the time of his death. He had been accused of attempting to smuggle 30 kilograms of cocaine across the Windsor border crossing in 2007. However, police have not said whether the charges were a factor in his death.
Police said Chhina had never been in trouble with the law. At the time of his killing, his family said they believed he was likely a victim of circumstance.
Police also caught a break in their investigation on April 1, when they announced a cache of explosives found in Toronto's east-end was linked to the case. Investigators have not identified how the explosives were linked to the double-murder.
Police say their investigation is ongoing.
