Ottawa police officers remain at Gloucester High School Wednesday following a reported threat.

Several cruisers were seen near the entrance of the school. Police said there would be a heightened presence during the day.

Police said they were called to the school Tuesday afternoon about the threat and began an investigation. In a statement to CTV News Ottawa on Wednesday, police said no further information would be shared.

"This remains an ongoing investigation and as such we will not release further details so as to protect the integrity of the investigation," police said.

School officials and the police would not comment on the nature of the threat, but a spokesperson for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board told CTV News Ottawa that it was posted on social media.

"As a precaution, school staff have put additional security measures in place. In addition, we have asked Ottawa Police to be present at the school to provide further reassurance to the school community," the spokesperson said. "We are continuing to monitor this situation closely and will provide updates to the school community as more information becomes available."

No additional information was shared by the school board on Wednesday morning.
