One day after a 30-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Ottawa's east end, Ottawa police are calling on the driver to turn him or herself in.

Police say they received a call from a passing motorist around 5:30 Sunday morning that a body was laying on Frank Kenny road, near Navan.

They believe the victim would have been struck shortly before then, between 5:10 and 5:30 a.m.

The victim's family does not want his identity released.

On Monday afternoon, friends of the victim erected a wooden cross with the letters "M M" on the side of the road where he was killed.

They say he lived with roommates just a few kilometres from where he was hit.

Friends say they had seen him Saturday afternoon, a few hours before he had plans to go out that night.

Frank Kenny Road was closed for several hours Sunday morning between Russell and Huismans Roads as police investigated.

Police say it is too soon to say if speed or alcohol were factors in the incident, but people who live nearby say the road is known for speeding.

They believe the vehicle involved in the incident would have significant front-end damage.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
