A 59-year-old Cornwall man is dead after being stabbed Thursday afternoon.

Police have a 41-year-old man in custody, who is alleged to have knifed the victim in a Baldwin Avenue residence at about 3:05 p.m. Authorities were notified through a 911 call after someone stepped onto the home's veranda and yelled for help.

The victim was taken to the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, where he later died.

The suspect is known to police but not from the Cornwall area. He is expected to be formally charged on Friday.

The names have not been released pending notification of next of kin. Police are continuing to investigate, and could not say whether either man lived at the residence.
