Ottawa Police are investigating the 16th homicide of 2016.
Paramedics say they received a call to Clyde Avenue around 3:00 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, they found a man in his 20s suffering from multiple stab wounds to his torso. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical, life threatening condition but did not survive.
Police have since identified the victim as 26-year-old Joshua Briere.
Police say they have one suspect, but have not laid any charges or made any arrests. Anyone with information is asked to contact them.
This is only the fourth time in the last 35 years that Ottawa's homicide rate has reached 16 or above. Data obtained by Statistics Canada shows there were 16 homicides in 2006, 24 in 1995, and 18 in 1983.
