OTTAWA -- A G2 driver will spend the weekend without their vehicle after being stopped speeding 54 kilometres an hour over the speed limit on the Airport Parkway.

Ottawa Police say an officer spotted the driver going 124 kilometres an hour on the Airport Parkway on Friday. The speed limit on the road is 70 km/h.

The driver is facing a charge of stunt driving, which includes a seven-day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for a week.

Just north of the Airport Parkway, a motorist was stopped for speeding double the speed limit on Bronson Avenue.

The Ottawa Police Service Traffic Unit tweeted a motorist was observed going 123 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

"There is no excuse for choosing to speed," said police, noting the driver is facing a charge of stunt driving.

Ottawa Police launched "Project NoiseMaker" last weekend, a traffic safety initiative aimed at reducing speeding, stunt driving and excessive noise on city streets.

During the first weekend, officers issued 84 charges on Merivale Road and Heron Road, including 62 for speeding.

Earlier this week, four motorists were charged with stunt driving on Bronson Avenue, including one motorist going 123 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
