Ottawa police have charged a Renfrew County paramedic with sexual assault after a woman reported being inappropriately touched while she was being driven in an ambulance.

Police say a 34-year-old woman filed the report, prompting police to begin their investigation on April 21. Investigators say the paramedic was working in Ottawa at the time of the incident.

"In any case in this nature, we're concerned that a person employed of this nature is treating people in a vulnerable position, so though we don't have reason to believe there are any more victims at this time, the possibility exists," said Staff Sgt. John McGetrick of the Ottawa police.

Shawn Doyle, 42, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of sexual assault. He has since been released on conditions.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
