Ontario police have laid impaired driving charges after a car drove the wrong way across the city Saturday night.

They said they got a call about a car driving westbound in the eastbound lane of Highway 417 near St. Laurent Boulevard around 11:50 p.m.

Another car rolled over near Parkdale Avenue as it swerved to avoid this car, but the three people inside weren't injured.

Two OPP cruisers were nearly hit at Carling Avenue and Maitland Avenue as they were set up to try to intercept the car.

Police said the second cruiser pursued the wrong-way car with its lights on to warn oncoming motorists and was able to get it to stop.

Liam McLeese, 22, is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

He is scheduled to appear in court on March 28.
