A 56-year-old woman is facing dozens of charges in connection with a series of thefts in Orleans.

Ottawa police made the arrest after warning residents that a thief was targeting female drivers after allegedly slashing their tires in east-end parking lots.

Police say the female suspect would pose as a good Samaritan, offering to help the women who were stranded after their tires were slashed.

While the victim was distracted, the female suspect would steal her purse or wallet, according to police.

Eighteen separate incidents were reported to authorities.

Police arrested a female suspect on Wednesday while another scheme was apparently underway.

Louise Menard is charged with 37 offences, including theft, mischief and possession of stolen property. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 9.
