A 14-year-old boy is facing sexual assault and abduction charges related to two recent incidents targeting young girls in Carlington.

The teenager was arrested Saturday and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, abduct person under the age of 14 and attempted abduct person under the age of 14, according to police.

The charges are related to two incidents at Bellevue Manor Park, near the Carling Avenue and Merivale Road area in Ottawa's west end.

The first on April 25 had a male use candy to lure an 11-year-old girl into the woods, where police said she was inappropriately touched.

The suspect fled the scene when the girl screamed, according to police.

The second instance happened Tuesday, when police said an eight-year-old girl was lured with ice cream.

An adult intervened and the suspect again fled.

Tuesday's incident was called "bold and brazen" by Ottawa police Staff-Sgt. John McGetrick on Tuesday, because of the lack of concern to who witnessed it.

Police said the accused, who cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is scheduled to appear in court Sunday.
