PETERBOROUGH - A man faces a host of charges following a high-speed police pursuit in central eastern Ontario.

Provincial police spotted a minivan speeding east of Peterborough at 111-kilometres an hour around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it allegedly sped up to 150 km/h and eluded them.

Police say they next chased the van after spotting it tearing through Peterborough faster than 170 km/h.

A spike belt was laid on the road, flattening one of the tires so that teams of police could stop the van - which had continued fleeing despite its damage.

Christopher Derrett, 27, of Bath, faces charges including impaired driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and flight from police.

He will appear in court Monday for a bail hearing.
