PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - A Peterborough man is facing several charges after a high-speed police chase in the central Ontario city early Wednesday morning.

Provincial police say officers tried to stop a black Ford Ranger pickup truck (on Water Street north of Park Hill Road) just after 1:30 a.m. but the vehicle took off as the officers approached.

It's alleged that after police began a pursuit, the fleeing vehicle stopped and the male suspect fled on foot.

Police say a search of the abandoned pickup led them to a home where the suspect was found hiding in the basement.

Robert Alfred Koehler, 29, is charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving while under suspension.

Koehler was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in a Peterborough court Wednesday for a bail hearing.
