The Ontario government's proposed ban on the cosmetic use and sale of pesticides is getting support from Ottawa City Hall.

A report for the Community and Protective Services Committee recommends council to endorse the proposed pesticide bylaw.

Under the legislation, more than 300 pesticide products are expected to be banned.

The proposed ban is set to take effect in 2009. At that point, municipalities will be forbidden from passing bylaws that are tougher than the provincial standard.

The City of Ottawa stopped using pesticides for cosmetic purposes on its own properties in 2002.
