A 68-year-old Pembroke woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision at an intersection on Highway 17 in the Upper Ottawa Valley.

Ontario provincial police said Sheila Prince was pronounced dead in hospital after the vehicle her husband was driving was hit by a pick up truck at the intersection of Highway 17 and Whitewater Road in Laurentian Valley Township at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the couple was rushed to the Pembroke Regional Hospital, along with the 63-year-old driver of the other vehicle and his 32-year-old passenger.

Danny Prince, Raymond Lapenskie and Shaun Lapenskie remain in hospital with not life-threatening injuries.

By mid-afternoon, detours were still in effect on Whitewater Road. However, Highway 17 is open to traffic.

Although police don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, their investigation is ongoing.
