An Ottawa man is not expected to survive a late-night hit-and-run in the city's downtown core, according to police.

Police say the 38-year-old man was struck by a car when he was crossing the road at Colonel By Drive and Rideau Street at about 11:15 p.m Sunday.

Investigators are looking for a 2007 or 2008 red Mazda RX-8 sports car that was allegedly involved in the incident.

The victim remains in hospital where he's being treated for severe head injuries. Police say his name will not be released until next of kin are notified.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Ottawa police at 613-236-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS.
