Ottawa police say a 54-year-old woman is dead after being struck by an SUV on Parkdale Avenue Saturday morning.

Paramedics say they were called to the scene near the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic Campus just before 10:30 a.m. They report that the woman showed no signs of life when they arrived.

Paramedics say she was revived on the way to hospital. She has since succumbed to her injuries of multi-system trauma.

Police say the driver and victim were known to each other.

Police say an 80-year-old man attempted to parallel park on Parkdale Ave. but reversed and struck the vehicle parked behind him. At that time, police say, the 56-year-old woman ran out from a sidewalk in front of the vehicle. Police say the driver then accelerated forward, hitting a second vehicle parked in front of him and the woman.

The vehicle then mounted the curb on the opposite side of the street, before coming to a stop on a lawn.

Parkdale Avenue was closed between Carling and Ruskin while Ottawa police investigated.
