Parishioners of an Aylmer church that was gutted by fire two weeks ago want the few walls that survived the blaze to be used when the church is rebuilt.

Worshippers at St-Paul's Roman Catholic Church are talking to architects and planners to determine if the walls are sturdy enough to be used in a new building.

Investigators have determined arson was the cause of the fire, which reduced the century-old church to rubble on June 11.

This will not be the first time the church is rebuilt after being devastated by flames. The church, which was built in 1893, was rebuilt after a fire ripped through the building in 1904.

During their initial investigation, police found a gas can near the church along with evidence the church was broken into. So far, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Gatineau police at 819-243-2345 ext. 6007.
