Parents of a missing 18-year-old Carleton University student are in Ottawa to help search for their daughter who was last seen Sunday.

Nadia Kajouji, 18, from the Toronto-area, has not been seen since March 9 upon returning to Ottawa after spending reading week with her family in Brampton, Ont.

"My daughter would never do something like this," Mohamad Kajouji told CTV News as he broke down in tears. He says his daughter would never disappear without letting someone know.

"Something really bad happened to her, I just don't think she'd be out this long without contacting me or her mother or her family," he said.

Kajouji's mother Deborah Chevalier says she just hopes her daughter is safe.

"It's tough not knowing. We don't know where she is or what's happened. Nobody, nobody has seen her or heard from her since Sunday," said Chevalier. "She's the light of my life. Nadia you're my hero."

Ottawa Police say the teen was "out of sorts" when she visited her family in Brampton during her university reading week. She disappeared after she returned to Carleton.

Chavelier says her daughter was depressed leading up to her disappearance.

"I know she's been depressed and she hasn't been acting herself and she had an argument with a friend on the Sunday," said Chavelier. "I'm hoping that she just got upset and ran off and is staying with someone, just you know to try to cool off."

Kajouji's aunt, Candita Martens-Mills has created a Facebook page to help look for her. The group already has over a 100 members.

Martens-Mills said she's been in contact with some of Nadia's friends and they had told her many of Nadia's belongings, including her cell phone, wallet and identification, were still in her dorm room.

Martens-Mills spoke to CTV News from her Orangeville, Ont. home Friday and said the teen's disappearance is "completely out of character."

She says although Kajouji was "down in the dumps" when she last spoke to her March 3, her attitude was not worrisome.

She says she's still trying to wrap her head around her niece's sudden disappearance.

Ottawa police say foul play is not suspected at this time.

"There's no exact place to search . . . she just hasn't returned home," Const. Alain Boucher of the Ottawa Police Service told CTV.ca.

Boucher says there's been no communications from Nadia and police have no indications where she could have gone. He said police did not believe the teen had any access to a vehicle.

Investigators have started the long process of tracking down friends and acquaintances and say they're using Kajouji's Facebook profile to help them contact people she's recently been in touch with.

The last activity on Kajouji's Facebook account was at 1:48 p.m. March 9.

Her last Facebook status update read: "...one day someone will love you."

Carleton University has also issued a campus-wide alert regarding Kajouji's disappearance.

Her parents say she loves to shop, play guitar and spend time with friends.

Kajouji is described as having dark skin and shoulder-length brown hair with blonde streaks. She is 5'8 and 130-pounds. Her eyebrow and tongue are pierced.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact the Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext 3726.
