Ottawa says goodbye to Target
All but one of the Target stores in the Ottawa will be closed for good Wednesday night, several months after the American company announced it was pulling out of Canada.
The Target on St. Laurent Boulevard will close April 2.
Target employed more than 17,000 employees in Canada across its 133 stores.
Target has struggled since it opened in Canada, with many consumers complaining of higher prices and lower quality merchandise available in Canada stores. The Minneapolis-based company has admitted it moved too fast, opening too many stores when it launched in Canada back in 2013.
Last year, the company reported losses of close to $1 billion since it opened in Canada.
Target is the most recent retailer to leave Canada's retail market. Last weekend, Future Shop abruptly announced it was closing all Canadian locations. Clothing retailers Mexx and Jacob have also folded in recent months.
